Just a few miles inland from Viserbella, there’s a hinterland rich in perfumes, colours, history and culture. If you choose to follow wine and food itineraries or if you decide for discovering arts and historical mysteries, you will be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. In 2007 a long article of the “Times” praised these landscapes and explained that Rimini’s territory is better than Tuscany’s.

There are a lot of farms scattered over the countryside, which offer tasting and samples.

Fairytale Castles
The magnificent castles spread in the Valmarecchia and Valconca’s countryside, give the suggestion of an ancient past and a present rich in culture.
The fabulous castle of Gradara has been made famous by the unfortunate love story of Paolo and Francesca narrated in the fifth canto of Dante’s Inferno.
Erected on a sharp rock between land and sky and surrounded by overhanging rocks, after ceased its military role the impenetrable fortress of San Leo became a prison, where the heretical Giuseppe Balsamo, better known as the Earl of Cagliostro, died. He still remains an enigmatic character full of fascination.
The castle of Montebello is inhabited by a ghost called “Azzurrina” a five-year old girl who, according to a folk legend, has been imprisoned in the castle and returns to let her voice be heard every half-decade on the day of summer solstice.
San Marino
Just a few miles inland from Rimini, on the Titano Mountain, lies the ancient Republic of San Marino. It is the smallest European country after Monaco and the Vatican City. In 2008, San Marino was declared a UNESCO Human Heritage site, and is constituted by nine castles which represent the nine Italian municipalities.
The capital is San Marino City which from above of the Titano Mountain’s 739 metres, dominates the surrounding countryside and gives a wonderful view of the entire Adriatic Riviera. The capital is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Europe and it is rich in monuments, museums and small shops where you can go shopping.
Rimini City of Art
Viserbella is a good starting point for visiting Rimini and its historical centre that isn’t only a city of amusements and beaches but it is also a city of art rich in archaeological, cultural and artistic treasures. The city was founded in 268 B.C and its highlights like the Augustus Arch, the Tiberius Bridge and the Roman Amphitheatre show its past as a Roman boomtown. The recent discovery of the “The Surgeon’s House” is a fantastic example of late Imperial Age House which complete the city’s archaeological heritage with its wonderful mosaics and the 150 surgical instruments that now are preserved at the Municipal Museum.
In the Middle Ages Rimini was an important centre well-demonstrated by monuments like the Malatestian temple and Sismondo’s castle, never-ending masterpieces from the Malatesta Family.
